DPP U-turns on despising judges, faults Msonda

 Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) yesterday made a U-turn on its public attack on the Judiciary in February and instead turned the heat on one of its members, Ken Msonda who alleged to have authored a document despising judges.

D u r i n g a p r e s s conference in Lilongwe, DPP spoke s p e r s o n Nicholas Dausi distanced the governing party from Msonda’s sentiments made in a 36-page document circulating on social media.

Said Dausi: “We [DPP] are so depressed. We want to categorically refuse the statement as it is not from DPP. As a party, we have not written any letter denouncing judges.

“DPP is a ruling party. How can we do that? The Judiciary is not happy with what happened. Since he [Msonda] has a cknowl edged [ the document], we will discipline him. There are measures in the party to deal with such tendencies.”

The document titled DPP Public Relations and Opinion Analysis, tackles the Constitutional Court judgement in the presidential election case, the role of Parliament, President Peter Mutharika’s r e s p o n s e , M a l a w i Electoral Commission, quota system, combating nepotism, financial compliance unit, youth empowerment, skills development and the think-tank recommendations.

Msonda, who was present at the press conference, did not deny writing the document, but said it was leaked before being finalised.

He said the opinions expressed are not of DPP but himself as a Malawian and a political and social commentator belonging to think tank political grouping.

Msonda refused to take further questions from journalists and walked out of the room.
